Healing the Paralytic Story - Bible

Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over, and came to his own town. Some men brought to him a paralyzed man, lying on a mat. Jesus saw their faith. He said to the man, 'Take heart, son. Your sins are forgiven.'

At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, 'This fellow is blaspheming.'

Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, 'Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? Which is easier: to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up and walk'? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.' Then he said to the paralytic, 'Get up, take your mat and go home.'

The man got up and went home. When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe. They praised God, who had given such authority to man.

Another time, Jesus again entered Capernaum. The people heard that he had come home. So many gathered that there was no room left. Not even outside the door was there any room. Jesus preached the word to them.

Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man. Four of them were carrying him. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus. Then they lowered the mat the paralyzed man was lying on.

When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, 'Son, your sins are forgiven.'

Some teachers of the law were sitting there. They were thinking to themselves, 'Why does this fellow talk like that? He's blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?'

Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts. So he said to them, 'Why are you thinking these things? Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up, take your mat and walk'? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.' So he said to the man, 'I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.'

The man got up, took his mat, and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone. They praised God and said, 'We have never seen anything like this!'

The friends of the paralyzed man really believed that Jesus could help. They did not give up when they could not get through the crowd. They made a hole in the roof. They lowered their friend down to Jesus. Jesus saw their faith. He healed the man. But first, he forgave his sins.

The teachers of the law did not understand. They thought only God could forgive sins. They were right about that. But they did not believe that Jesus is God. Jesus proved that he has authority to forgive sins. He healed the man. The man got up and walked. Everyone saw the miracle.

This story shows us the importance of friendship. The four friends brought their paralyzed friend to Jesus. They did everything they could to help him. Because of their faith, their friend was healed and forgiven. We can bring our friends to Jesus too. We can tell them about him. We can pray for them. We can bring them to church. Jesus can forgive their sins and heal their hearts.
